I don’t believe the modern university can function under a mandate that demands cognitive and emotional investment from staff at the same time that it takes job security and benefits. I don’t think there are adequate resources to address the impact of mental health at the institutional level and I don’t think the responsibility for addressing mental health issues in academia should fall to those who are experiencing it. Talk about unpaid labour.
